On Wednesday of this week Bud got a message on facebook from Bill Nichols asking if Bud wanted to drive one of his Micor sprints at thunder mountain speedway naturally Bud took him up on his offer! The car has a 583 skidoo engine in it and Bill wanted to see if it would keep up with the 600cc cars and needed a driver who he knew would drive it as hard as it would go. After fouling the spark plugs in the heat race Bud started 8th on the 9 car field and that is pretty much where he stayed for the remainder of the race. It turns out the 583 will not keep up very good. Bud said he had fun and learned a few things about driving a sprint car too.

Well after last week we decided to start running regularly at 5 mile point just to get some seat time so tonight we loaded up and headed down to the Kirkwood 1/4 mile for a feature only night. Since Bud has only run there once before he had to start 10th but as soon as the green flag dropped he started passing cars making his way up to 6th by lap 3 keeping up with the leaders but just didnt have enough to pass them. We are very happy with 6th place concidering it is only Buds 7th race! We are off next week and depending on family plans we might be at penncan and five mile point july 4th and 5th for tour shows.got some new springs and installed them tonight and scaled the car, Our plans for this weekend is to hit the tour show at penncan tomorrow but if that rains out we will be going to 5 mile point saturday for a non tour race. We really need to get the car to handle right before next month when all the big money shows start!
Well we went to I88 with some high hopes for a good finish since it is Buds "home" track, but an ill handling car had other plans. We started 4th in the heat and ended up finishing toward the back. Made some changes before starting 20th on the 30 car field for the feature. After passing a few cars the car started to get really loose and Bud had his hands full just driving the car and ended up 18th. We have some work to do this week but will be at 5 mile point on june 7th. |
